Post Losing My Log In  Posted Jul 3, 2006; 4:48 pm

For some reason I am logged in but then it seems I get 'bumped off' and need to log on again to post. Is there some timer involved that is logging me out ? Sometimes I get auto loggged on and other times I have to log on myself. Confused

If you don't check the box to log on automatically each visit, your session (with your login data) will expire after one hour without activity. After that point, you'd have to log in again.

I have always checked the box for auto log in. My wife uses multiple sessions and I often am logged in but not on the computer for some time but it seems that, in the past, the auto log in would hold up and not be limited to one hour.

Anyway, if this is how it works, I will remind her to log us out instead of the forum sitting in limbo on another session.

Or perhaps I mis-understood. Confused

Sudsy, Marshall can give you the technical stuff, but I just wondered if you and your wife both use the same computer? When I use my husband's computer occassionally, I have to log him out of one site so that I can log in under my name. Then when I'm finished, I set it back again for him to be automatically logged in.

When I use my own computer, of course, I am automatically logged in on my own account.

We only have one computer and use a common logon and e:mail address. My wife has a separate user ID for the MB forum but doesn't use it as she just reads posts only. She usually logs on the computer in the morning and it stays on until bedtime. She likes to check out another forum throughout the day and posts there. Thanks anyway.

If you are using more than one login on the same computer, then the "log in automatically" setting will cause problems. You'll probably have to log in each time, at least if it's been more than an hour since your last visit.

Maybe there's some issues with your cookies - have you tried deleting them?

It is not only Sudsy. I have had the same issue the past few days. I am the only one in the household who participates in this forum, I only have one login identity, and every time it asks me to login I check the box for automatic login. Yet I just had to manually login now.

Are you using dail-up, or broadband.Similar things happened when we used dail-up years ago. Question 3web was the worst.

Bro that's funny - I never had any problems with 3web.

Sudsy - have you cleaned out your cookies lately? Sometimes that's a problem. Or perhaps there's an update for your browser?

Thanks for the suggestions but it seems fine now. I think satan was interfering with my posts. Confused . However, I did clean out our cookies as suggested and they were good. I feel much better now. Big Grin
