Generally I'm a Clint Eastwood fan, probably because of his dusters. In some ways, these were good preparation for what this movie portrayed. My experience in a masculine environment also thickened my skin, ie. construction, prison, machine shop, etc. No, I do not condone the language in this movie but if you can screen it from your respected and evangelical Mennonite up-bring, there is a deeper messages in this story. I too, thankfully, was raised by parents that pointed me in a direction that did not identify with the rough language. The elements that should be emphasized are more obscure. You may not agree with me on this but nobody learns anything with a closed mind.

We seem to be watching the same movies Rudy Smile And we both have thick skin – I didn’t even notice the language.

And, like you, I also thought the movie had some good messages. I especially thought the racial interactions were thought provoking (Hmong immigrants transitioning a nieghourhood). My caveat would be Clint is a bit one dimensional. And the younger actors are not the best. And the ending is a wee bit corny.

All that being said, it definitely was not a waste of time. IMO, the racial component made the movie worth watching.

I really liked Clint's Unforgiven - throughout the movie he said, 'i've changed' but slid back into old ways. I thought that was a good character study.
