| I looked this up in the dictionary but still don't really understand what an Avatar is to represent. Could you explain and how do we get one for our profile ? |

An avatar is the picture found under your name. Mine right now is a cornucopia.
An avatar can be any picture you choose within these parameters:
width no greater than 80 pixels
heigh no greater than 80 pixels
file size no greater than 10 KB
To see if your picture meets theses criteria, you can right click and check out the properties.
