The contest would be based on answering some Bible trivia questions, and hints for the questions would be hidden in various topics around the site. Edit: I removed the prize part.

Would you participate?

Nothing in the Bible is trivial. Isn't a contest gambling? I'll do the poll.

Trivia doesn't necessarily mean things that are trivial. According to the dictionary, it also means "a quizzing game involving obscure facts". That's the meaning being used here.

Only if receiving Christmas gifts from some (but not all) people you know is also gambling. Wink

I don't think so. I'm not sure the definition of gambling is always helpful. Investments of all kinds involve some amount of risk. Even keeping money in your wallet is risky. It could get stolen, it could depreciate in value, there is exchange risk if you have US currency. Not having insurance is gambling also. Declining a job offer when a better one could come up, is gambling. I better stop my actuarial analysis of the question. Big Grin At any rate, there is zero downside risk for participating, and the prize is defined as a gift. It doesn't fit into the definition of gambling.

I would enjoy the searching out obscure information part, and I don't think there is anything wrong about the idea. I just personally don't like to do competition for prizes, so I would l probably wind up not 'entering' answers. So I voted maybe.

My plan was to randomly choose a winner from all the correct entries. If anyone doesn't want to possibly get the prize, they could mention that on their entry and that way still participate.

Or, we could scrap the prize part and just run the questions. That makes it cheaper for me! Big Grin

Prizes are fun, but I'm voting for scrapping the prize.

Okay, since three people have mentioned it, I've removed the prize. It's still a contest, but the winners will have to reward themselves. Smile

Theprizes have been removed? Well that sucks! I love prizes - I'll do the contest anyway, but prizes are always, well, so much fun!

Something tells me I'm not going to be able to please everybody here. Laughing

I agree, Jinxy, prizes are fun. Paul even compared sanctification to an athlete running a race to receive a prize (1 Cor. 9:24-27; see also Phil. 3:12-16; 2 Tim. 4:6-8). Maybe we'll do prize entries and no-prize entries. In any case, nobody will be forced to win a prize by participating in this contest. Wink

Prizes can be such a hassle, eh? On some other forums I'm a part of the prizes we receive are graphics we can add to our signature (some forever and others fo a month, until the next contest). Maybe that would be a good compromise. Although I'm okay with the prize. Smile
