Post The Normal Christian Life - Intro & Schedule  Posted Apr 4, 2005; 8:29 am

INTRODUCTION & GUIDELINES

Welcome to the MB Forum Book Club! We will be reading Watchman Nee's The Normal Christian Life. You can read this book online. Here is one website - http://www.ccel.org/n/nee/normal/normal.htm .

Anyone can join in at any time, all we ask is that you not get ahead of where we are reading.

We will be discussing one chapter every week or so. You may want to write down somethings when you read - keeping a journal or writing in the book is recommended that way everything is always in one place. Please feel free to share with us your reflections, thoughts, and questions about what you have read.

Remember these are opinions and each of us are entitled to our own, so be courteous with your replies. It is hoped that, together, we may be able to add to and increase our own understanding of our Christian walk.

Well, I just made a boo boo Embarassed and so I will warn others that may slip up as I did - I sent for The Normal Christian Life' from Chapters and they sent me 'The Normal Christian Church Life'. Both of these books are by Watchmen Nee.

Anyway, I have the online version to begin reading.

I've decided to opt out of this particular book reading and discussion. I know that some of you don't like my habit of internet searching about persons or groups, but I do find it useful. As a result of what I read from both pro and con opinions re: Watchman Nee and Witness Lee and the "Local Church" movement, I have decided to skip out on this one.

However, I am sure that those who do participate will have some lively discussions.

vanislandwoman, I would love to hear some of your findings. Maybe you could post something under Other Books. That would be so great! Thanks. Smile

From what I understand, Witness Lee's views are much more controvsersial than Watchman Nee's. I too have concerns regarding the "Local Church" movement, but I wouldn't hold Watchman Nee responsible. For those who don't know, Watchman discipled Witnesss Lee, but Witness later developed some rather unorthodox views.

I'm a bit dubious about a few things in the book too, but I did vote for it, so I'm going to try and make it through.

Now that the Book Club has been split into separate sections for each book, it's a bit easier to continue discussing older book selections as well. If you have something to add to any of those, please feel free to post. I'm hoping to read through the second half of Acts again and post to the topics on that. Maybe some others will continue to discuss some of these other books as well.

I like to think of the book as a challenge, much like A New Kind of Christian. It will challenge me in my Christian walk and make me read and study deeper.

We may not agree with everything - which is great because then we will have more to discuss. Makes for a great book club. Big Grin (Notice the shameless promotion of the book club. Wink )

The normal christian life is to keep all God's commandments, tell the gospel to all people, fear God in his Holy power and majesty, keep his sabbaths and oberve his holy days. A true christian is not evil but has a strond desire to be wise and good and only live for the most high Jesus Christ the true son of the living God. The christian wants to be perfect in all things and banishes all his human desires to comit and be submissive to the God of light in fear of punishment from God in who he is. Arrow

Hi,
"Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. all the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matt 22:37-40
You said, "keep his sabbaths and oberve his holy days"
Paul saids,"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace." Galatians 5:4, 5
"Oh senseless Galatians . . . how is it that you are turning back to the weak and elementary things and want to slave for them over again. You are scrupulously observing days and months and seasons and years. I fear somehow I have toiled to no purpose respecting you." - Gal 3:1, 4:6-31

I think "fear God in awe" you might have missed that this is the book forum. The Normal Christian Life is the title of a book by Watchman Nee.

If you want you can start a new thread under the Discuss Christianity board with your comment. Thanks. Smile
