Forum Rules and Information |

MB Forum is an online community primarily for Mennonite Brethren in Canada and abroad. It is a place to discuss, debate, resource, and learn from others. People from other denominations and faiths are also welcome to join and contribute. Hopefully this will become a good place to learn about MBs and Christianity, so your comments and questions are welcome.
All members are expected to be familiar with the rules that follow. This forum is not a democracy and members do not have the right to unrestrained free speech. If you break a rule, you will probably be warned by a moderator and the offending post may be edited or deleted. Further infractions may lead to a ban from the site. In special circumstances, moderators may edit, delete or ban at their discretion, even in response to something that doesn't explicitly break one of the following rules. If you have a question or complaint about a moderator action, discuss it privately with the moderator by sending them a PM or email, or failing that, raise your concerns with another moderator.
Content Rules (applies to posts, signatures, personal messages and profile information)
- No profane or vulgar language. If something in your post is automatically changed to "[bleep]", that's a clue that you've said something you shouldn't. Edit your post to use more polite language and nobody will know.
- No personal attacks or bigotry. Feel free to debate and disagree with others, but don't insult or judge those who disagree with you. Don't call into question someone's Christianity or use labels to demean people.
- No blasphemy. Non-Christians are welcome to post here, but everyone is expected and required to be respectful when talking about God. If you can't do that, you probably shouldn't talk about God here.
- No spamming, plagiarism or copyright infringement. Don't post the same message in different places on this board, and don't make a habit of cross-posting messages from other boards. If you're quoting or copying what someone else wrote, give credit to the source. Don't post long articles you didn't write; instead, provide a link to the article and perhaps give a synopsis in your own words. In order to prevent automated spam attacks, new members with less than five posts are prevented from posting links.
- No unsolicited advertising or recruiting. If you must promote your products, services or club, keep it in your signature. Don't advertise elsewhere unless it's directly related to what's being discussed, and don't start a topic in order to advertise. While discussion and debate of other denominations and belief systems is welcome, this is not the place to recruit new followers. A member whose posting activity is devoted to a single pet issue may be asked to drop that topic, and if they choose not to, they may be banned.
- No endorsement of illegal activity. Do not post material that is illegal even if it's just "for discussion". Use discretion when discussing actions that are or were permitted elsewhere but are not now permitted in Canada. Discussion of such topics may be allowed but advocating lawbreaking is not.
- Any links or images (including avatars) should be family-friendly. Images larger than a smilie are not permitted in signatures. If you have an extremely long or large signature, you may be asked to change it.
- Try to stay on topic. Feel free to start a new thread to address a tangent.
Forum Notes
- As a rule of thumb, if you can see a forum, you are welcome to participate in it. Please keep in mind that some forums assume a certain perspective. For instance, while everyone can post in the Discuss Christianity classroom, topics there assume a Christian perspective. The same is true of Discuss MB Distinctives. In the Discuss Anything classroom, discussions may come from all points of view, without assuming things like the inspiration of Scripture or the existence of God.
- Moderators will move topics that fit better in another forum. Try to post things in the right forum, but don't worry if you get it wrong and your topic is moved.
- Moderators may also adjust topic titles for clarity, or move posts within a topic on a different issue to their own topic. In general, they may make edits to fix posts that are causing display problems (such as long links that cause text to scroll past the edge of the screen).
